When it comes to most Michigan State fans, there are two things they want to see on any given Saturday. First of all, they want their team to demolish whichever team they happen to be playing, and second, they want Michigan to lose.
This is completely understandable as Michigan just so happens to be Michigan State’s biggest rival, and even though the reverse of that is not true, move Spartan fans celebrate when the Wolverines lose…at anything.
But on Saturday night, smart Michigan State fans will be rooting for No. 2 Michigan to defeat No. 13 Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game and their reasoning is very simple.
You see, if the Wolverines beat the Hawkeyes in Indianapolis, the Spartans will almost certainly end up playing in a New Year’s Six bowl game, which is their goal at this point.
But if Michigan were to stumble and lose to Iowa, the Hawkeyes, who are currently not a New Year’s Six candidate, would go to the Rose Bowl, while Michigan and Ohio State would likely play in a New Year’s Six bowl game and the Spartans would be on the outside looking in.
This is why “smart” Michigan State fans will be rooting for the maize and blue on Saturday night.
The guy/gal that wrote this article is “not too smart”. As a TA at MSU, I would love to challenge the author to an IQ test.
Let me know if you down to find out who is truly smarter?
“Smart” MSU fans or “dumb” sportswriters? You do not get to define “smart” for others. You’re assuming we care more about which bowl game we get than that UM loses. I’m sure some do, but not all, and the choice is not defined by IQ. We will get a decent bowl in any case, even if it’s not NY6. Go Green!
