On Friday, news broke that The Washington Football Team had made the shocking decision to release future Hall of Fame running back, Adrian Peterson.
According to reports, Peterson is not ready to retire and will look to land with another NFL franchise prior to Week 1.
As I have said, I am not 100% comfortable with the Detroit Lions current situation at running back. Kerryon Johnson has not been able to stay healthy (14 games missed in 2 seasons) since he was in diapers (exaggeration) and rookie D’Andre Swift has missed most of training camp with a leg injury. Not to mention, Swift dealt with multiple injuries in college, so there may be an issue there also.
Interestingly enough, Peterson started off his NFL career in Minnesota with Darrell Bevell as his offensive coordinator. In the four seasons they were together, Peterson rushed for nearly 6,000 yards and a whopping 52 touchdowns.
Bevell, of course, is now the offensive coordinator for the Lions, a team that just so happens to have a need for a bruising running back like Peterson.
Yes, he is 35-years-old, but I strongly believe that Peterson could not only give the Lions a boost in the running game but that he would also fit in nicely as a leader in the locker room.
Back in 2017, Peterson listed the Detroit Lions as a possible destination. Could he still feel that way? Do you think the Lions should sign him? I do.
