Why the NFL will postpone Week 4 matchup between Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints

UPDATE:

Since publishing this piece, news broke that Michael Burton's original positive COVID-19 test has been deemed a false-positive and his teammates have also tested negative for the virus!

Report: Detroit Lions WILL play New Orleans Saints after re-test comes back negative

Original Story:

While you were sleeping, news broke that New Orleans Saints FB Michael Burton has tested positive for COVID-19. Burton was on the Saints team flight to Detroit and other Saints players who were in contact or near him have been tested since their arrival. Efforts are also being made to make sure Burton's positive test result is not a false positive.

There is a huge problem if Burton's test comes back positive a second time, even if his teammates' tests come back negative. Even if those tests came back negative today, it would not mean those players and staff members are in the clear as there is an incubation period for the virus. Because of that, the Saints Week 4 matchup vs. the Detroit Lions should be postponed. And I believe it will be.

As we have seen this week with the Tennessee Titans more and more players and staff members are testing positive on a daily basis, despite the first person in the organization testing positive early in the week. A similar situation could end up happening with the Saints and it is too big of a risk to have them take the field against the Lions on Sunday.

That being said, let's hope the original test comes back as a false-positive!

Stay tuned, but look for the Lions vs. Saints Week 4 game to be postponed.
