The Detroit Red Wings need goal scoring. A former player of theirs is rather good at depositing the puck behind opposition goaltenders. And he just so happens to be a pending free-agent.
Let’s talk about a Tomas Tatar reunion in the Motor City.
Originally drafted 60th overall by the Red Wings in 2009, Tatar would burst onto the scene during the 2013-14 NHL Season, scoring 19 goals. He’d follow that up with a 29 goal campaign the following season, and became a consistent threat for at least hitting the 20-goal mark when he was sent to the Vegas Golden Knights in 2018 in exchange for a 1st round selection.
Following a quick stint in Vegas that saw him play in the Stanley Cup Finals, Tatar has continued his scoring ways with the Montreal Canadiens, having lit the lamp 47 times over the past two seasons while consistently playing on Montreal’s top line.
Detroit will also have more cap space with which to work this offseason thanks to maneuvering from GM Steve Yzerman.
Tatar was well-liked in the dressing room, and endeared himself to fans with his exuberant celebrations. Should Yzerman’s plan this offseason be to include beefing up on offense, Tatar would (once again) be an ideal fit.
