Will the Detroit Lions sign QB Colin Kaepernick? The answer is simple

As you have probably heard by now, free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick will work out in Atlanta on Saturday with the hopes of impressing at least one NFL team.

According to head coach Matt Patricia, the Detroit Lions will have a representative in Atlanta to see what Kaepernick still has left in the tank. Patricia noted at Wednesday’s press conference that the Lions always do their due diligence on available free agents.

“We as an organization, we always do our due diligence on all players that are available,” Patricia said when asked about Kaepernick.

Not only will the Lions be in attendance for Kaepernick’s workout, but according to Sports Betting Dimes, they are currently the favorite to sign him. After all, with Matthew Stafford dealing with a broken back, the Lions certainly could use some more depth at the QB position.

Will Colin Kaepernick get a shot with the Detroit Lions?

The question is, WILL Lions general manager Bob Quinn sign Colin Kaepernick?

That answer is easy.

Absolutely not.

Since Quinn has taken over as GM of the Lions, he has shown that he is not willing to put much money into the backup quarterback spot. Instead, he has taken the approach of bringing in younger quarterbacks (for the most part) with the hopes of developing them into quality players.

Kaepernick, who is now 32 years old, has not played in an NFL game in nearly three years and that is something that certainly will be held against him in this process.

In addition, the Lions are currently 3-5-1 and unless they win out — which the won’t — they will not be in the playoffs this season. If Detroit was 5-3-1 and in the playoff hunt, and Kaepernick proved in his workout that he still has some gas left in the tank, then MAYBE Quinn would consider signing him as a backup. But obviously (and unfortunately), that is not the case.

That being said, on a personal level, I REALLY want to see Kaepernick get another shot in the NFL, I just do not see that shot coming with the Detroit Lions.

What do you think?
