Thanks to high COVID-19 test rates, the Wisconsin Badgers have made the decision to cancel their upcoming game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
All team related activities have been suspended for a week. The positive testing rate officially reached a threshold that requires teams to immediately halt all team activities for at least seven days; at least 12 people within the program have tested positive for coronavirus in the last five days.
Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez released the following statement:
“We have said from the beginning that the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and staff members comes first,” Alvarez said. “Over the past several days we have seen a rising number of student-athletes and staff contract the virus. The responsible thing for us to do is to pause football-related activities for at least seven days.”
“We thank and appreciate our athletic trainers, doctors and public health staff who are supporting the health and safety of our student-athletes and program,” said Blank.
The game was originally scheduled to be played this Saturday.
