Writer suggests Detroit Lions consider blockbuster signing to replace Kenny Golladay

What will the Detroit Lions do when it comes to addressing the wide receiver position? That will be one of the biggest questions that new Lions’ GM Brad Holmes will address as Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr., and Danny Amendola are all slated to become free agents.

My personal feeling is that Amendola will retire and Jones Jr. will be playing elsewhere in 2021 which means both of those options will have to be replaced, which the Lions could do via free agency or the draft as wide receivers are a dime a dozen at time of year.

That being said, what should the Lions do with Kenny Golladay? Should they offer him a huge payday to stay in Detroit or let him walk? I have said it a million times and I will say it again now for the people in the back…NEVER OVERPAY FOR A WIDE RECEIVER!!!

You can bet Golladay will want to be paid like a top 5 wide receiver and that is not what he is so the Lions should look elsewhere to fill his shoes. My preference would be for them find a guy in the draft such as Rashod Bateman (Minnesota) in the second round and then sign a couple of dependable free agents to replace Jones Jr. and Amendola. Heck, I would even offer Amendola a 1-year, $4-5 million contract to give it one more go.

By former Detroit Sports Nation writer Logan Lamorandier, who is now crushing it at All Lions, suggests the Lions should consider signing soon to be free agent Allen Robinson. Here is some of Logan’s rationale for the move.

Despite Robinson being drafted three years ahead of Golladay, they are only a few months apart in terms of age.

Yes, Golladay is a playmaker, but so is Robinson. They both are great in contested catches.

Taking into account who Robinson has had throwing him the ball for a majority of his career — Mitchell Trubisky with the Bears and Blake Bortles with the Jaguars — makes his stats all the more impressive.

In my opinion, if the Lions want to pay big money to a receiver, Robinson should be a priority.

In my opinion, I would not pay the big bucks for either Golladay or Robinson as I believe the Lions could find better places to allocate their salary cap.

  1. I think Jones would be a cheap keeper for what he brings the team. Then draft a WR and franchise tag Golladay. We have Cephus developing, Hock at TE. Agnew in the slot…if KG doesn’t prove himself we don’t offer him a contract…

  2. I would try to retain Marvin Jones Jr. for at least on more year.
attempt to sign Corey Davis (WR, Tennessee Titans 6’3″ 210lb who played his
college ball at Western Michigan) and then address the WR Position
in the later rounds of the draft….(any point after the first round) we need
DEFENSE too badly to take an offensive player in round 1.

  3. I never thought Golladay was a top 10 but with a new coach and front office . It is worth talking and see what he wants and if he wants to be a Lion. You franchise him or give him a big contract he just might sit the season out like he did this year.
I liked Golladay from the start and with Patricia the yelling, ranting ,dismissive and down right disrespectful to The players when he couldn’t even walk on the field because his knee. Fat ass who can’t play football ! New coach hopefully new team .
