As you have probably heard, the Houston Texans have reportedly had a change of heart and they are not willing to part ways with one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, Deshaun Watson.
But you have also heard that the Texans are asking for a handful of high draft picks and starting-caliber players in order for them to trade Watson.
Now before we go any further, if the Texans are really demanding five high draft picks in addition to multiple starting-caliber NFL Players, that means they are not really trying to trade Watson. I do not believe there is a team in the league that would be willing to give up that much for a player who could end up being put on the Commissioner’s Exempt List.
That being said, Watson is a rare talent and whichever team lands him would have him for the next decade, which is VERY tempting.
According to Jeff Risdon of LionsWire, the Detroit Lions is a team that has what it takes to get a deal done with the Texans. Risdon also notes (and I agree) that he does not expect the Lions to be involved at all.
From LionsWire:
The Detroit Lions have the required ammunition to make a strong offer for Watson. Detroit has extra first-round picks in both the 2022 and 2023 NFL drafts, meaning they could deal three picks and still keep a first-rounder to help build around Watson. Players like Jamie Collins, Tyrell Crosby, Amani Oruwariye and Trey Flowers all have some real value to a team like the Texans as trade bait, too.
Don’t expect the Lions to be actively involved, or directly mentioned, in the trade scenarios, however. Watson’s uncertain status, the nature of the allegations against him and the steep price to pay to acquire him all make the situation very difficult to envision Lions GM Brad Holmes, or owner Sheila Ford Hamp, having a strong interest.
Nation, what do you think?
Hahahaha. No. No. No….
