Zyhir Hope’s first hit in the Detroit Tigers organization was worth the wait.

Hope blasted a two-run home run for Double-A Erie on Thursday night, giving the prized prospect his first hit since joining Detroit’s farm system in the Tarik Skubal trade.

It was Hope’s 24th home run of the season.

Hope Shows Off His Power

Hope did not need long to provide a glimpse of the power that made him the centerpiece of Detroit’s return for Skubal.

According to David Rosenberg, the homer came despite Hope not appearing to get all of the pitch. That makes the result even more impressive.

When a hitter can mishit a ball and still send it over the fence, the power is very real.

Hope had already produced loud contact during his first game with Erie, including a 105-mph lineout. This time, the baseball found the seats.

Detroit’s New Prospect Makes His Mark

The Tigers acquired Hope from the Los Angeles Dodgers along with River Ryan and Brady Smith.

Hope immediately became one of the most closely watched players in Detroit’s minor-league system. His combination of power, speed and offensive upside gives the Tigers a potential impact outfielder for the future.

His first Tigers organization hit could not have been much louder.
