Former Michigan State basketball player  Travis Walton is coming to his own defense following an ESPN “Outside the Lines” report that accused him of sexual assault and physical violence towards women, during his time at MSU.

“Outside the Lines” referenced several alleged incidents involving Spartan basketball that had already been made public. Two of them involved Walton, a former player who joined Tom Izzo’s staff as a graduate assistant in 2010. In the span of one month, Walton was accused of punching a female student in the face at a bar, and raping another at an off-campus apartment along with two MSU players.

According to the report, Walton then went on to finish coaching that season and was reportedly fired by Michigan State after the season. Today, he released a statement coming to his own defense, in regards to these allegations:

As shown in Mike Sullivan’s tweet above, Walton denied everything ESPN has reported. He joins head football coach Mark Dantonio, as two figures who have denied these accusations that ESPN made in its report on Friday. The report went after Michigan State’s athletic programs, specifically football and men’s basketball.

Spartan basketball coach Tom Izzo has repeatedly declined to speak on the report until he has given it a full review, stating he has cooperated with every investigation and will continue to do so. He’s not giving any other details at this point.

This investigation will most surely continue for a long time, but a couple of Spartans are already showing they’re not afraid to deny these reports.
