After dealing with the stress of his twin boys being in the hospital seven weeks after their birth, James McCann is ready for spring training, and he’s bringing the boys with him.

The news of a baseball player bringing his twin babies to spring training isn’t exactly “exciting news,” however, this story is different than most. On December 6th, Detroit McCann and his wife Jessica welcomed their twin babies Christain and Kane into the world. It was nine and a half weeks before her due date. They each weighed three pounds, and doctors were not making any promises to the McCann’s.

“The doctor would come in and say, ‘Hey, we can’t guarantee you it’s going to go well,’ and every time both of the boys would kind of open up their eyes at the doctor,” said James McCann. “The doctor just said, ‘We don’t know how they are responding the way they are, but it’s pretty special what they’re doing.’

Christain and Kane McCann spent the first seven weeks of their lives in the NICU At Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. However, with the exception of being born 30 weeks into the pregnancy, they had no other complications while in the NICU.

Here was the tweet James sent out the day his twin babies were released from the hospital:

It is safe to say that the McCann’s are grateful for the care that the boys were given while at the hospital.

“I can’t say enough good things about Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital,” he said. “We didn’t run into one employee there who rubbed us the wrong way. Our nurses were phenomenal and all the doctors were great.”

Doctors cleared the babies for travel just this past week, and the twins are doing just fine according to the McCann’s. They have had no further complications since they have been home. And, now, the McCann’s will travel from their home in Nashville to Lakeland, preparing for the upcoming baseball season. We hope and pray that both Christian and Kane can continue their progress and live very healthy lives.
