Game Notes:
The Rangers hit a pair of home runs, including a Mike Napoli bomb to center field, to propel
them past the Tigers in the series finale with a 5-2 win. Matthew Boyd looked good through five innings, but a Pete Kozma home run ended his night early in the 6th. Offensively, the Tigers got their first run of the game on an Ian Kinsler solo shot in the bottom of the 1st to tie the game at 1-1. They then put men on 1st and 3rd with no outs, but weren’t able to capitalize. Miguel Cabrera added another run in the bottom of the 2nd on an RBI-single, but that was all the Tigers could muster off Yu Darvish, who went five innings and struck out seven Tigers hitters.
Looking Ahead:
The Tigers don’t have any time to sulk on this one as they are back at it tomorrow night in Houston against the Astros at 8:10 PM EST. It’s an extremely quick turnaround for Detroit with the Sunday night game and no day off tomorrow, and to make matters worse, they have four games against the American League’s best team. Luckily, the Tigers have Michael Fulmer going in game one of the series. He is 5-1 this season with a 2.72 ERA.
