The Detroit Lions may have a special visitor come to training camp this Friday. Retired wide receiver Chad Johnson was “invited” to Lions training camp this Friday and announced on twitter he be joining the team in Allen Park for a visit.

Ok, so maybe it was more Johnson “inviting” himself to check out practice but it was nice that the Lions Twitter handler humored him.

Johnson last played in the NFL in during the 2011 season with the New England Patriots. Prior to the 2012 season, he was signed by the Miami Dolphins but was then cut during the preseason following an incident where he was arrested after he head butted his new bride. The event later aired on HBO’s Hard Knocks.

On Wednesday, Johnson posted a photo of himself and Jim Harbaugh at the Wolverines football camp. Johnson is in around the area week as his daughter’s AAU Junior Olympics championships are being played at Eastern Michigan University. During his visit this week he is also planning on taking 100 people to a local theater to watch the movie “Detroit”

While Johnson has expressed interest of a comeback in years past, the 39-year-old former Pro Bowl receiver may have a better chance waiting around until a Big3 football league could be formed.

In his 11-year career, 10 with the Bengals and one with the Patriots, Johnson caught 766 passes for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns.

Fun fact: In 2011 the Cincinnati Bengals traded Johnson to the Patriots for two future draft picks, one of those picks turned out to be current Detroit Lion – Marvin Jones.
