Darrell Bevell admits he’s getting frustrated awaiting Detroit Lions decision

The Detroit Lions continue their search for their new full-time head coach following the November dismissal of Matt Patricia.

One of the candidates interviewed is offensive coordinator-turned interim head coach Darrell Bevell, who was promoted following Patricia’s exit. The Lions also have a handful of other names they’re considering.

However for Bevell, who interviewed for the full-time position over a week ago, the waiting is beginning to weigh on him a bit. While giving an interview on NFL Radio on SiriusXM, Bevell admitted that it’s “frustrating”.

“Yeah, they’re just going through the process and they’re taking their time,” Bevell said. “That’s something they said they were going to do. Obviously, they’re going through GM interviews, as well, at the same time.

“It’s a little bit frustrating, I guess the waiting time,” Bevell continued. “It’s over a week that you’ve interviewed and you don’t get a lot of feedback. You don’t get a lot of information as they’re kinda methodically going through this process. It’s just a waiting game. I felt like the interview went really well. I was excited to have that opportunity. I thought the team played well down the stretch, the last five games that I was in there. Just hoping for the best.”

With Bevell as interim head coach, the Lions dropped four of five games, including a matchup he wasn’t able to see in person thanks to COVID-19 protocols. However, he earned praise from several Lions players as well as team president Rod Wood for his performance.
