The question has been floating around since the announcement of Henrik Zetterberg’s retirement; who will the new captain be? A couple names of Detroit Red Wings players have been put forward, but nothing concrete. The Red Wings announced today their decision; no captain for Detroit. At least for this season, anyway.
Per Blashill, Dylan Larkin and Frans Nielsen named alternate captains and Kronwall and Abdelkader will remain alternate captains.
Dylan will wear the A at home and Frans at away games.

In addition to lacking a captain, the Red Wings will have four alternate captains this year. Along with Justin Abdelkader and Niklas Kronwall, Frans Nielsen and Dylan Larkin will both also wear the ‘A’s. They will rotate duties though; Larkin at home, and Nielsen on the road.
The move of not naming a captain is not unprecedented. In fact, the Vancouver Canucks this season have also opted to not name a team captain. It allows for leadership roles to be more distributed, and possibly for a new natural leader to emerge on his own.
Time will tell how this move plays out. The Red Wings open their season tomorrow night (Thursday) against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

MUST SEE: Rugby player reacts to The Brawl in Hockeytown
Jacob McDonald is back, and this time he’s looking back on a moment beloved to most Detroit Red Wings fans. After polling the comments on his YouTube channel, Jacob decides to watch a full video of The Brawl in Hockeytown from 1997. Also known to many Detroit fans affectionately as “The day Lemieux turtled”.
Long story short, as many fans know, the Brawl in Hockeytown was the epic fight between Detroit and the Colorado Avalanche. The brawl was the result of a dirty hit a year prior by Claude Lemieux on Kris Draper.
Previously, McDonald reacted to some of the highlights from Pavel Datsyuk’s career, and they blew his mind. Now he gets to witness one of the best brawls in NHL history. Keep in mind that McDonald is going into this viewing blind and with zero context. Therefore, you’ll have to forgive some of his transgressions. (Such as “man I feel bad for Lemieux”.)
