Don’t look now but the 2019 College Football National Championship odds were just released by the Las Vegas SuperBook. In case you are feeling lucky, or think you will be come 2019, you can go ahead and get a head start on betting.  A lot of familiar faces sit with the best odds, as well as some that may surprise you.

To no one’s surprise, Alabama is the favorite with 5/2 odds. Alabama is accompanied by teams with some of the most consistent recent success in Clemson, Georgia, and Ohio State. Next up with 10/1 odds is Jim Harbaugh and the University of Michigan. As all of East Lansing rolls there eyes in unison, Michigan comes in as the fifth favorite to make the College Football Playoffs and win it all.

10/1 odds makes you believe either one of two things. Shea Patterson will be eligible to play in 2018/19. Or the Las Vegas Superbook did not watch Brandon Peters & Co. play in the Outback Bowl. Michigan did get good news when stud defensive lineman Chase Winovich announced he would be coming back for his senior year. This means Michigan will return nine of 11 starters from their top-tier defense. However, they will certainly miss the production from Mo Hurst. Las Vegas Superbook is not the only one who thinks Michigan will be a legit contender next year.

As for Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State Spartans, they check in with 25/1 odds, tied with Texas, Wisconsin, Miami, and Auburn. Probably right where Dantonio wants to be where he can play his favorite role as the underdog and afterthought. The Spartans have the luxury of bringing back a proven quarterback in Brian Lewerke. The Spartans and Wolverines are set to meet in East Lansing on October 20th.

Like it or not, Harbaugh will enter the season with incredibly high expectations, just as they are every year. And those expectations will be tested right out the gates with a road night game at Notre Dame.

Another thing to note is that three of the top six odds are Big Ten teams. This coming just after the Big Ten was controversially left out of this year’s playoffs.

As the Harbaugh era continues the expectations are incredibly high, and apparently not just in the city of Ann Arbor.
