The NFL combine has become almost must-watch T.V. as top prospects go through entertaining physical testing. Along with the NFL combine, the NFL drafting process has become an incredibly diligent process that evaluates everything imaginable about a prospect. During this week’s combine, doctors were able to detect something wrong with Michigan’s star defensive tackle and first-round talent, Maurice Hurst. According to fellow Wolverine, Adam Schefter, Maurice Hurst was diagnosed with a heart condition.

As of now, it appears Hurst will not be going through the combine drills as he awaits for further details. The good news is that Hurst’s tape during his senior year at Michigan speaks for itself. He was unbelievable in his last year in Ann Arbor as he became almost unblockable.

During his senior year, Hurst totaled 59 total tackles and five and a half sacks. Hurst was an under-recruited kid who worked diligently to become one of the most feared and productive defensive lineman by his senior year. His eruption during his senior year forced NFL teams and scouts to take notice.

NFL analyst Mel Kiper had Maurice Hurst as the third best defensive tackle in this draft. Coming in behind Alabama’s Da’Ron Payne and Washington’s Vita Vea.

Hopefully, Hurst condition is manageable and does not drop his stock too much, but more importantly that he is healthy and fine. There will certainly be more to come on the details of the condition for the potential first-round pick. However, with the NFL draft being as critical and detailed as it is this could potentially drop his draft status. As it was Hurst was already primed to be a steal in the NFL draft. Reminding me of NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald.
