On Friday night, during a speech in Alabama, President Donald Trump caught everyone’s attention when he gave his opinion on players who choose to take a knee or sit during the national anthem.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired. He’s fired!’” Trump said during the speech.

Since then, many NFL players and teams have spoken out about the President’s comments.

On Sunday morning, the Detroit Lions released a statement from their owner and chairman, Martha Firestone Ford.

“Our game has long provided a powerful platform for dialogue and positive change in many communities throughout our nation.

“Thank primarily to our players, the NFL also has been a unifying force in our country and impactful change has and hopefully will continue to be the result of peaceful expression, done so in order to highlight social injustices of all kind.

“Negative and disrespectful comments suggesting otherwise are contrary to the founding principles of our country, and we do not support those comments or opinions.” Said Ford.

Up to this point, no Detroit Lions player has protested by sitting or kneeling during the national anthem. Following the comments from President Trump, it would not be surprising at all if one or more Lions players decided to kneel prior to their game on Sunday.

The Lions will host the Atlanta Falcons at Ford Field on Sunday afternoon. With both teams undefeated, it is sure to be a very interesting early season matchup.

  1. Do you know why the right to freedom of expression so important? Why is it the First Amendment? Why is it more important than everything else at the foundation of this country, including our flag?

Because a flag can be, and often is, an idol. A flag can be an icon. It is the perversion of idolatry, the malfeasance of the ruling class in 16th and 17th century England, that led to people being flayed alive and tortured during inquisitions for speaking their minds. Beheaded if they were lucky.
You might not think it’s the same, but it is. It all strips down to the same nonsense. It is a form of worship, and worship can be perverted.

Just as jurisprudence is the spirit of the law, so too is patriotism the spirit of a country. The spirit does not live in an object, but in the actions of those that make up the country.
Colin Kaepernick knelt during the national anthem. The same people criticizing him refuse to look at how he spent almost all of his money trying to help people, that he does not foment violent action, nor derogatory behavior.

If you want to be called a patriot, grow up and stop worshipping an object and start behaving like you believe in something that is actually bigger than yourself.

    Way to go Mrs. Ford.

    • you are an idiot. You don’t idolize or worship the flag. It is just a symbal of the men and woman who died for our country. for the freedoms we have, even yours.

      • Only an idiot would resort to name calling to try to make a point. The words Idol and Symbol are synonyms and mean literally the same thing. The word worship is a synonym for honor, revere, venerate, etc. Also liking your comment is the same as high fiving your mirror, way to go champ. At least make an effort to learn what simple words mean before trying to argue with people online or you just expose your own ignorance.

  2. Funny how MSM and the left (well, they really are one in the same) chastise Trump for his statement, citing the First Amendment, and yet do not do the same when BLM or ANTIFA deny (not hint at it, but actually do it) conservatives and their First Amendment rights. The double standard is epic in proportion!! These pampered athletes want to protest, let them. I really don’t care what they do, for they do nothing for me. But to side with one and not another, when both are doing the same thing, is hypocrisy and disgusting!!!
