There may not be another time in NFL history where a team has needed a bye as much as the Detroit Lions do this week. Ok, that may be hyperbole, but if you have been following the Lions, you know exactly what I mean.

Prior to and during Sunday’s whooping at the hands of the New Orleans Saints, multiple Lions were either banged up but continued playing, or forced out of the game with an injury.

On Tuesday, the Lions practice field must have looked a bit empty as 12 players reportedly were missing from action, including 10 starters. Those missing today’s practice include Matthew Stafford, Golden Tate, Kenny Golladay, TJ Jones, T.J. Lang, Emmett Cleary, Greg Robinson, Ezekiel Ansah, Anthony Zettel, A’Shawn Robinson, Paul Worrilow, and Glover Quin.

It was announced on Monday that Tate injured the AC joint in his shoulder and could be forced to miss time. If he does end up missing a game, it would be the first time doing so since he came to the Lions.

Another injury that looked very serious was the brain injury http://gty.im/862457468 suffered when he took a knee to the head from A’Shawn Robinson. When the hit first happened, Quin looked to lose consciousness for a moment before laying on the turf. If he were to be forced to miss game action, it would stop his Iron Man streak of 123 consecutive games played in the NFL.

Returning to practice today, after coming off the PUP list, is punter Sam Martin, who missed the first six games of the season.
