For the Detroit Lions, the offseason is here and there has already been plenty of speculation as to which players the team should go after in free agency and which players currently on their roster should be re-signed.
But what we have not seen much of (yet) is potential trades the Lions could make.
Until now.
On Wednesday, Jeff Risdon of Lions Wire put out an article and he threw out a hypothetical trade that would send TE T.J. Hockenson to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for 2-time All-Pro wide receiver, Michael Thomas.
Here is the trade Risdon suggests:
In exchange for the 28-year-old Thomas, who missed the 2021 season with an injury, the Lions give up TE T.J. Hockenson, their own third-round pick in 2022 and the Rams’ first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft acquired in the Matthew Stafford trade. The Saints also send the Lions a fifth-round pick in 2022 because these sorts of trades invariably include a seemingly superfluous Day 3 pick.

Nation, would you make this trade if you were the Lions?
This is maybe the dumbest trade idea I’ve ever heard.
Dumb trade. All that for a old receiver that can’t stay healthy and would never play for the lions.
Totally agree. I laughed when I read it. Lions trade a high first round pick + 3rd pick + 1st round from next year for an injured WR? Lol. Maybe Saints give us some toilet paper to sweeten the deal! Lol
Not in 100 years
Moronic sports writer thinking he has the mind of a GM….stay in your lane fool. Stupidest trade proposal ever!
Ok so this “brilliant “ trade would be to trade a young rising TE with potential for a once great 29year old WR that played only 7 games (and with little production) in 2020 and zero games in 2021 after he had season ending ankle surgery plus a first round pick and possibly a late round pick… seriously? Time to quit the hard drugs and drinking there friend.
are you high ? first off you have nobody to throw the ball that far lol AND you are giving up a first round pick ? This guy needs another profession because he sucks at his current one
Dude should be writing in the lifestyle section and leave sports to people who understand it…
I can’t believe anyone could suggest such a stupid trade. Our tight end is top tier and we should be thinking of securing him for the long term. Jeff Risdon is trying to stir things up. I don’t believe he really believes what he said.
Hock is not a top tier, Kelce is there all alone.
no
Wow! You can’t be serious about this trade. Really?
When in the hell is everyone going to get off the trade away every good player the Lions get, someone please take this dudes ink pen or ship his behind to New Orleans
I’m open to trading Hock before we have to pay him for a contact I don’t think he’ll live up to, but I want nothing to do with Michael Thomas.
I would never give up picks for a hurt player. They would be giving us picking. That’s the stupidest trade I’ve ever witness anyone suggest.
This sounds like a Quinntricia move
T.J Hockinson is one of the only guys on the team that hardly ever drops the ball. Why trade for a guy that at best has a couple seasons left. He been injured this is why the Saints are trying to ball the Lions in the first place. If they do the trade. The NFL should step in and make the Ford’s sell the team. It’s not fair to the fans or the league. Crap I’ve only watched football all my life and everything I’ve told my oldest son about there trade and picks have pretty much been spot on. Take Matthew Stafford if he would have had players that could catch the ball he could have won here. But we had players like stone hands EB. J that’s all I will say.
We need a good TE. I think there’ll be some good wide receiver in free agency we can pickup.
Are you crazy???
That’s an emphatic no
Hell no
So basically you’re trading Matt Stafford And TJ Hock for Michael Thomas. What an absolutely stupid idea.
Seriously? Who would make this trade?
That is the most stupidest trade suggestion of all time. Whoever even wrote this hypothetical should be fired
????????????
Give up your starting tightend AND a 1st round pick for a 28 yr old receiver coming off an injury? While you’re in rebuild and have no realistic expectation of playoffs this year? I know the Lions don’t have a history of smart trades but this one sets them back again.
Hell no.. why would we do that for some players that’s on their way out the door that’s just f n dumb
Trade Hockenson..ha ha um..no. The proposal is stupid…
