Inside the Article:
The 2022 Detroit Lions got off to an abysmal 1-6 start before they flipped the switch and won eight of their final ten games to finish the season with a 9-8 record. Unfortunately, nine wins were not enough to make the NFL Playoffs, and if they want to be there in 2023, they will have to improve their roster. This is especially true when it comes to the defensive side of the ball. One position that needs to improve is cornerback, and they have been linked to CB Cameron Sutton of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Why it Matters
If the Lions take a step forward in 2023, they will have to make some additions to their defense. One position they absolutely must add during the offseason is cornerback.
Other positions they must address on defense are as follows:
- Interior Defensive Line
- Linebacker
Lions linked to free agent CB Cameron Sutton
Pro Football Focus recently released an article where they look at one free-agent defender each team should target, and they suggest the Lions go after CB Cameron Sutton.
Here is what Pro Football Focus has to say about signing Sutton:
In the secondary, the Lions were nearly devoid of talent, going so far as to move safety Will Harris to cornerback. They need to add reinforcements to the secondary, and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn was a defensive backs coach in New Orleans before joining Dan Campbell in Detroit.
Sutton earned a career-best 72.2 grade as a full-time starter in 2022, allowing just 0.76 yards per coverage snap, good for 11th among cornerbacks with at least 200 coverage snaps on the season. He offers inside/outside versatility as well, though he’s been a starter on the outside the last two seasons.
