The world of college basketball has the University of Michigan to thank for modernizing the game. Specifically, a group of players called The Fab Five. Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King, Ray Jackson, and Jalen Rose joined forces at Michigan as freshmen and absolutely reshaped the landscape of college ball. Their teamwork, unity, skill, and trash talk rejuvenated the game and changed it forever.
There have been tributes to The Fab Five over the years. Baggy shorts, team huddles outside of timeouts, and unified gear still remain staples of the college game. Many of the players found success in life after basketball including Jalen Rose as a commentator and Jimmy King as a high school coach.

Today a new form of nostalgia for The Fab Five was released by Tinker Hatfield of Nike sports apparel and the Jordan Brand. Check out these new high-tops that pay homage to the famous Michigan basketball team.

Slam Magazine has reported Hatfield’s press release for the design highlighting the reason behind the latest version of the sneakers.
“If you were watching college basketball in the early ‘90s, the Fab Five stuck with you. They brought a new style of play. They had swagger to their game that I hadn’t seen at the college level before. They became one of the most iconic teams in college sports. I wanted to create a special shoe that celebrated that team and marks the start of a new era for the teams at the Jordan Brand and the University of Michigan.”

The sneakers are made of a combination of leather and suede. The have a Block M on the outer part of the tongue as well as “Hail to” and “The Victors” in the inside. The shoes, as impressive as they are, will not be made available to the general public for sale. Instead, Slam reports that they will be presented to “Michigan friends and family” only for the time being.
