JUST IN: Detroit Lions sign linebacker, cut offensive lineman

Published

on

The Detroit Lions continue to shuffle their roster, something general manager Bob Quinn has done just about every week this season. On Saturday, Quinn brought in some depth for the dinged-up linebacker corps, while releasing an offensive lineman.

The Lions announced Saturday that they have re-signed LB Thurston Armbrister to their practice squad. Armbrister has been on and off the Detroit roster a couple times but has yet to see the field this season. After starting his career in Jacksonville as an undrafted free agent in 2015, he signed as a free agent with Detroit and appeared in 14 games last season. Armbrister had two starts for Detroit in 2016 and had nine solo tackles.

The Lions linebackers have had their share of injuries this season, with rookie Jarrad Davis missing a couple games with a head injury, Tahir Whitehead fighting through a pectoral muscle issue, and Paul Worrilow has already been ruled out for this week after suffering a strained MCL in Detroit’s Week 4 win at Minnesota.

To make room on the practice squad, Detroit cut offensive guard Brandon Thomas, who they acquired in a trade with San Francisco in exchange for receiver Jeremy Kerley in August of 2016. Thomas was a third-round pick of the 49ers in 2014, but never caught on, and has yet to play a snap in an NFL regular season game.

The Lions are in New Orleans to play the Saints on Sunday.

Earlier this week, Kelly Stafford‘s brother posted a photo on Instagram which showed Kelly in the hospital preparing for brain surgery.

Since that post, there have not been any updates on Kelly and all we can do is keep her in our thoughts and prayers that all went well and she has a speedy and successful recovery.

On Saturday night, former Detroit Lions‘ cornerback Nevin Lawson took to Twitter to send his prayers out for Kelly the Stafford family.

Please continue to pray for Kelly Stafford and her family as they go through this difficult time.

Detroit Lions ‘All-Local’ 2019 NFL Mock Draft

Published

on

This coming Thursday, the 2019 NFL Draft will officially begin.

Over the past few months, if you are anything like me, you have read literally hundreds upon hundreds of Detroit Lions’ mock drafts.

So, I figured it would be fun to think outside the box (but inside the state) to come up with what an ‘All-local’ Lions draft could look like.

Check it out.

Round 1 – Devin Bush Jr. (LB) Michigan or Rashan Gary (DL) Michigan

Round 2 – Justin Layne (CB) Michigan State or David Long (CB) Michigan

Round 3 – Sean Bunting (CB) Central Michigan or Chase Winovich (DL) Michigan

Round 4 – Maxx Crosby (Edge) Eastern Michigan

Round 5 – Khari Willis (S) Michigan State

Round 6 – Xavier Crawford (CB) Central Michigan

Round 6 – Karan Higdon (RB) Michigan

Round 7 – Zach Gentry (TE) Michigan

Round 7 – LJ Scott (RB) Michigan State

Now, I know there is a .0000001% chance of this actually happening, but those players should be available when the Lions are on the clock in each round.
