The Detroit Pistons have signed another free agent on Thursday, inking center Eric Moreland to an undisclosed contract.

Moreland (6-8, 238 pounds) was born in Houston and went undrafted out of Oregon State in the 2014 NBA Draft. He last played in the NBA for the Sacramento Kings during the 2015-16 NBA Season, averaging 1.0 points, 1.4 rebounds, 0.5 blocks and 6.0 minutes in eight games.
He played in 44 games with the Canton Charge of the NBA’s G League last season, averaging a double-double and nearly 3.0 blocks per game in over 33 minutes of action on average.
Moreland joined the Pistons Summer League team in Orlando, and he spoke of what he was hoping the team would see in him and what he can provide on the floor.
“The Pistons were pretty interested and I thought it was a good opportunity to come in and use that interest to showcase what I can do. Now that I’m healthy, I’m just showing that I’m ready to go,” he said. “When I was with the Kings, I was hurt for those two years and I got a chance to soak in all that information being around those vets and seeing that lifestyle.”
“When I was hurt, I got a chance to learn that stuff and when I got back last year, I tried to implement that and bring it into this year. I just keep going and trying to grow as a player.”
Henry Ellenson, Detroit's first round draft pick from 2016, attested to Moreland's abilities.
“Eric Moreland is fun to play with because it makes your job easier in terms of rim protection,” he said. “If your guy gets past you, he’s aggressive on the defensive end going to block the shot…Rebounding, he’s able to seal a guy out. Playing with guys like that is a lot of fun.”
