TEAM NEWS: Detroit Tigers sign trio of pitchers

According to the Detroit Tigers, they have signed a trio of pitchers.

On Wednesday, the team tweeted out that they have signed right-handed pitchers Eduardo Paredes and Chris Smith along with left-handed pitcher Nick Ramirez.

Both Paredes and Smith have received invitations to Major League Spring Training.

From Detroit Tigers:

Paredes, 23, spent the 2018 season in the Los Angeles Angels organization, pitching for both Triple-A Salt Lake and at the Major League level. In 14 appearances with the Angels, Paredes had a 0–0 record with a 6.87 ERA (18.1IP/14ER) and 15 strikeouts, while he went 2–1 with five saves, a 4.68 ERA (42.1IP/22ER) and 35 strikeouts in 38 outings with Salt Lake. In 232 career appearances at the Minor League level, Paredes has compiled an 11–13 record with 63 saves, a 2.84 ERA (295.0IP/93ER) and 327 strikeouts. He has also made 32 career appearances in the big leagues, posting a 0–1 record with one save, a 5.53 ERA (40.2IP/25ER) and 32 strikeouts.

Ramirez, 29, saw time with both Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Colorado Springs in the Milwaukee Brewers organization last season, combining to go 11–3 with one save, a 3.95 ERA (68.1IP/30ER) and 51 strikeouts in 39 outings, including two starts. He was selected to the Southern League Midseason All-Star Team with Biloxi in 2018. Ramirez, who switched from being a position player to a pitcher in 2017, has appeared in 88 games, including two as a starter, over the last two seasons, compiling an 18–7 record with four saves, a 2.56 ERA (147.2IP/42ER) and 107 strikeouts.

Smith, 30, spent the entire 2018 season with Triple-A Syracuse in the Washington Nationals organization, posting a 4–5 record with a 3.93 ERA (55.0IP/24ER) and 65 strikeouts. In 189 career Minor League appearances, including one start, Smith has a 12–15 record with 26 saves, a 2.93 ERA (255.0IP/83ER) and 278 strikeouts. He has also pitched in four games at the Major League level, all coming in 2017 with Toronto, and has a 0–0 record with a 5.40 ERA (5.0IP/3ER) and one strikeout.

What do you think, Nation? Will either Paredes or Smith crack the Detroit Tigers Opening Day roster?
