Game Notes:

The Tigers were vaulted to a 1-0 lead on a mammoth shot by Miguel Cabrera. The long ball was Miggy’s 449th of his career, placing him in a tie for 38th all-time with Jeff Bagwell and Vladimir Guerrero. The home run, also, extended the Tigers franchise record for most home runs in consecutive games to start the season and brought them within one game of the 2002 Cleveland Indians for the all-time record. However, that was all that was in the cards for the Tigers batters tonight, as Matt Andriese recovered and shut them down.

Michael Fulmer started hot out of the gate, holding the Rays offense in check; however, a hanging slider to Tim Beckham, gave the Rays a 2-1 lead, a lead they would not look back from. The loss is Fulmer’s first on the season, yet, there seems to be nothing to worry about with the Tiger’s sophomore stud. The Tigers will look to rebound tomorrow, waking the bats up, and getting back into the win column as they are right back in action for game two of the series.

Looking Ahead:

Tomorrow the Tigers are right back in action against the Rays, sending Jordan Zimmermann to the hill to square off against Rays ace, Chris Archer. The Tigers will look to get a better day of production from the lineup after they were held quiet in the opener. A tough task against one of the better pitchers in the Major Leagues.
