The Detroit Tigers have built up one of the top pools of pitching prospects in Major League Baseball but according to a statement from GM Al Avila, one of those prospects will have Tommy John surgery.
On Saturday, the Tigers released a statement from Avila which reveals starting pitcher Alex Faedo will “undergo reconstructive surgery of his UCL on his right arm.”

Faedo, who is the No. 5 ranked pitching prospect in the Tigers’ farm system, was originally selected with the N0. 18 overall selection in the 2017 MLB Draft.
Recovering from Tommy John surgery generally requires 14-16 months, which means Faedo will not be able to return until 2022.
