The 2017 NFL regular season is officially in the books and despite winning three of their final four games of the season to finish 9-7, the Detroit Lions did not do enough to make the playoffs.
For the Lions and their fans, it's time to start looking forward to what is going to be an extremely busy offseason for general manager Bob Quinn. Before long it will be time for the free agency period, followed by the 2018 NFL Draft.
With the regular season wrapping up on Sunday, the 2018 NFL Draft order has been revealed and the Lions will have the No. 20 overall pick.
As noted by Kyle Meinke of MLive, the Lions have picked 20th overall five times since the 1984 NFL Draft. In 1984 they selected TE David Lewis, in 1995 they took DL Luther Ellis, in 1998 they went with CB Terry Fair, in 2000 they selected OT Stockar McDougle, and in 2009, the Lions drafted TE Brandon Pettigrew.
The Lions draft strategy will depend mainly on what they decide to do in free agency but one thing is for sure, they have a decent amount of holes that need to be filled before the 2018 regular season.

The next Detroit Lions head coach will be…
Though nobody in the Detroit Lions organization is willing to speak a word about it, head coach Jim Caldwell will likely be fired soon after the final game of the regular season, which will take place on Sunday afternoon.
There is no question about it that Caldwell is a great man and is loved by his players but unfortunately, his football coaching skills are not good enough and it’s time for the Lions to go in a different direction before it’s too late.
