The Detroit Lions opened up training camp on Wednesday and the first report we passed along was that safety Godwin Igwebuike had been moved to running back.
Igwebuike, who played his college ball at Northwestern, last played running back in high school where he ran for nearly 2,000 yards and 29 touchdowns.
Following practice, Lions RB D’Andre Swift was asked about his new running back mate and he said he likes what he sees.
“He’s doing a great job of learning,” Swift said. “He’s real smart. Just an all-around natural football player. He looks real good out there.”
It would be a big surprise if Igwebuike makes the 53-man roster out of camp but if he shows promise, he could stick on the practice squad.
