According to the Detroit Tigers, INF Jordy Mercer has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to the club’s alternate training site in Toledo. Rather than accepting the assignment, he has elected free agency.
Mercer, who is nearly 34, played in 3 games for the Tigers this season, going 2-for-9.
The move puts the active roster at 28, which is where it needs to be moving forward.
