The Detroit Red Wings are currently stuck in a rut. Friday night marked their seventh straight regulation defeat, matching their longest streak of futility since 1989.
While there may be plenty of blame for the team struggles to go around, perhaps the most visible member is taking the brunt of the responsibility.
Dylan Larkin spoke to the media following last night’s 2-0 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, and made it clear that he doesn’t want any fingers being pointed at anyone but himself.
“I haven’t been good enough offensively or defensively,” Larkin said. “You want to point fingers, point it right at me. I have to be way better for this team and carry the load up front and put the puck in the net.”

In 11 games, Larkin has scored twice to go with five assists. He’s also been vocal about the need for his teammates to up their games.
But in the seven game slide his team is mired in, the offense just hasn’t been there. Detroit has been outscored 29-9, and they’re already feeling the pressure to not fall too far behind in the standings this early in the year.
“We need a win bad,” Larkin said. “We need to get our confidence back as a team. We’ve played good, we haven’t played good consistently. We just need to get two points and grind out a win and pick up from there. We need it in the worst way. … We’re going to have to figure this out pretty quick or else it’s going to get ugly.”
