Jeimer Candelario Agrees to 1-Yr Deal with Washington Nationals

Jeimer Candelario has found a new home, agreeing to a one-year deal with the Washington Nationals. Candelario, who turned 29 on Thanksgiving hit .217/.272/.361 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs this past season with the Tigers.

Nationals will be Jeimer Candelario’s third team in 7 years

The 29-year-old third baseman from New York, had spent the majority of his 7-year career with the Detroit Tigers, joining the club in 2017 after playing just 16 games in two years with the Chicago Cubs.

In the covid-shortened season of 2020 Candelario hit basically .300 and had an OPS+ of 137. He followed that up in 2021 by being one of the top 3B in all of major league baseball.

This is more proof of the new direction for the Tigers under the new President of Baseball Operations, Scott Harris. It seems Candelario is a casualty of the entire Tigers line-up cratering in 2022 as his numbers dipped dramatically from 2021. His 2021 season was his best year in the majors, as he played in the most games for a season with 149, had the most hits in a season with 151, and the most doubles in a season with 42. But 2022 left much to be wanting as Candelario went from hitting .271 to .217, 151 hits to 93, and his slugging dropped from .443 to .361.

No details yet on the salary for the one-year deal with the Washington Nationals.
