JUST IN: Red Wings call up Christoffer Ehn

With news arriving today that Frans Nielsen probably won’t draw back into the lineup for the Detroit Red Wings until Friday at the earliest, they acted accordingly. The Red Wings announced today they’ve called Christoffer Ehn back up from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Ehn was sent to Grand Rapids almost two weeks ago now, on October 25. They’ve gone 3-2-0 in that time and have a +4 goal differential. Ehn was a surprise debut on Opening Night with the Red Wings, and has since appeared in nine games. He’s garnered a single assist for his efforts, along with four penalty minutes and a plus-minus of plus-2.

Ehn has appeared in five games with the Griffins this season, good for a goal and three assists. He’s second on the team in points per game in Grand Rapids. Bringing him up gives the Red Wings a healthy forward count of 13. After being reduced to 10 healthy forwards in a game once already this season, chances are that they’ll opt to roll with six defensemen.

Ehn has been a surprisingly solid, defensively responsible forward with the Red Wings since his debut out of preseason. His continued development could see him become a regular bottom-six forward that contributes to secondary scoring.

Detroit takes on the Vancouver Canucks tonight at Little Caesars Arena. (7:30pm ET)

Red Wings’ Michael Rasmussen scores his first NHL goal against Columbus [VIDEO]

In what has started as a great night for the Detroit Red Wings, it’s gotta be an even better one for rookie Michael Rasmussen. While Dylan Larkin is doing things like putting up his 150th and 151st career points, Rasmussen has gotten his first goal.

On the power play, Thomas Vanek took a pass behind the net from Gustav Nyquist. With Rasmussen heading into the slot, Vanek slipped him the puck from behind goaltender Joonas Korpisalo. In what Mickey Redmond calls a bang-bang play, he took the pass and immediately shoveled it into the net for his first career goal.
