With the NFL Pro Bowl voting opening up this past week, the talk of the town has been about which Detroit Lions players are deserving of a selection. Of course, Matthew Stafford and Glover Quin have gotten their fair share of hype, but it’s cornerback Darius Slay who is at the top of just about every list.
Heading into Week 11, Slay led all NFL cornerbacks with four interceptions (A.J. Bouye got his fourth on Sunday) and 17 passes defended (he picked up two more against the Bears on Sunday) as he has routinely shut down opposing receivers who have tried their luck on his side of the field.

With the Lions leading the Bears 27-24 late in the game, Slay had an opportunity to pick of his fifth pass of the season when he jumped a pass thrown by rookie Mitchell Trubinsky. In fact, the ball should have been easily intercepted and the game should have been on ice for Detroit.
When asked by reporters after the game about what happened on the play, Slay agreed that he should have taken care of business.

“I should have had it, easily,” Slay said. “I don’t know what (Trubisky) was thinking.”
“I was going to be so sad if we had to go into overtime,” Slay said. “First of all, it’s too cold to get going an extra quarter, too damn cold. I’m ready to get home and get into my own, warm crib.
“Other than that, I take all the blame,” he said. “That junk should not have lasted that long. We should have never made it that far. Should have been done there on the spot.”
Luckily for Slay, Bears kicker Connor Barth missed a 46-yard game-tying field goal with just seconds left in the game, moving the Lions to 6-4 on the season.
