LOOK: Detroit Lions hire offensive assistant/quality control coach

Former New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia has officially taken the reigns of the Detroit Lions and working hard to round out his coaching staff.

On Tuesday, the Lions hired Brian Picucci as an offensive assistant/quality control coach.

Via Detroit Lions:

Picucci joins the Lions coaching staff in 2018 after spending the last two seasons (2016-17) at the University of Maine, where he worked as the offensive line/run game coordinator (2017) and running backs coach (2016). His coaching experience spans more than 20 years throughout the college ranks, including previous stints at Becker College (2015), Widener University (2014), Central Connecticut State (2013), UMass (1998-99, 2004-12) and Northeastern (2000-03). Picucci earned his coaching start at Southern Connecticut State in 1994 following a playing career at Syracuse as a fullback and tight end from 1989-93. He graduated from Syracuse with a Bachelor of Science in Education.

Lions GM Bob Quinn has made it clear that fixing the running game will be a collaborative effort and you can be sure that Picucci, who has experience in that area, will be part of that effort.

Lions have the second-toughest strength-of-schedule for 2018

The Detroit Lions have themselves a new head coach for 2018, and they’re hoping he’ll lead them to new heights. However, his first year in Detroit, Matt Patricia will be up against the second toughest strength-of-schedule in the NFL.

The Lions tweeted out today that they’re tied for the second-toughest schedule based on their combined record of their opponents in 2017.

The divisional rival Green Bay Packers have the toughest schedule, followed by Detroit, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, and Cleveland.

Among the teams that will be visiting Ford Field this year are the Los Angeles Rams, the Seattle Seahawks, the Carolina Panthers, the New York Jets and the New England Patriots. Their road schedule will include matchups against the San Francisco 49ers, the Arizona Cardinals, the Dallas Cowboys, the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.
