It's the end of an era as the Palace of Auburn Hills has officially begun demolition. The process will take place over several phases over six months as the legendary venue will soon be no more.
The first official phase is currently underway with removal of items from the building. The actual demolition is slated to take place in January, though reports indicate that a demolition permit is still yet to be acquired.
Phase three will include taking down concert walls and steel framing, followed by phase four of filling in the excavated hole. That is scheduled to take place sometime in spring of 2020.
The Palace served as the home of the NBA's Detroit Pistons from 1988 to 2017, as well as the IHL's Detroit Vipers and countless concerts and family shows.
