Two debuts set to be made tonight for Red Wings

As the Detroit Red Wings gear up for their Friday night tilt against the Winnipeg Jets, we’ve learned that we’ll see some fresh faces on the ice. We’ve got a boatload of info coming at your faces, so strap in.

Red Wings waiver acquisition Jacob de la Rose is set to make his Red Wings debut. He was plucked off waivers from the Montreal Canadiens last week. In 119 NHL games, all with Montreal, de la Rose has accumulated eight goals among 19 points, and sits at a plus/minus of minus-16. He’s slated to start on the fourth line alongside Justin Abdelkader and Martin Frk.

Along with de la Rose, Mike Green will be making his season debut tonight. He’s been battling a virus that attacked his liver since preseason, but is ready to hit the ice again. Green is slotted into the top defensive pairing with Dennis Cholowski. With Green, Trevor Daley, Niklas Kronwall, and Jonathan Ericsson back in the lineup, the Red Wings’ blue line is looking more and more how fans anticipated it looking this year. Green led all Red Wings defensemen last year with 33 points in 66 games played.

Other notable roster changes include Darren Helm’s move to the top line alongside Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi. This means that both Anthony Mantha and Gustav Nyquist have been shuffled out of the top line and ended up on the 3rd line, with Luke Glendening. This may just be a motivating move by coach Jeff Blashill to get the two producing. He’s been understandably frustrated by the lack of effort from some players this season. The Red Wings square off against the Jets tonight at 7:30pm ET.
