What it would cost the Detroit Lions to land Trevor Lawrence

You know you are on social media way too much when you start coming across fans of the Detroit Lions suggesting that their team trades Matthew Stafford and a couple of draft picks to the Jacksonville Jaguars for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

First of all, I am here to tell you that there is no way in hell that the Jaguars will give up their chance at Trevor Lawrence, who is arguably the greatest quarterback prospect to enter the NFL Draft since Andrew Luck all the way back in 2002.

That being said, I figured I would mess around with a mock draft on The Draft Network just to see what it would take for the Lions to trade up for the No. 1 overall pick.

Well, as I played around with potential trades (only including draft picks because TDN does not allow players to be included) I found that the most straightforward way to move up to No. 1 was to trade the Lions first and second-round picks in each of the next four seasons.

Knowing it would potentially take four first and four second-round picks to move up from No. 7 to No. 1, it gives us a baseline for as to how the Lions could move up to No. 1 if they include Stafford in the deal.

Personally, I think Stafford is worth a pair of first-round picks but just to be conservative, let’s say he is worth one first and one second-round pick. If that is accurate (it may or may not be but let’s go with it), the Lions could offer the following to the Jaguars for the No. 1 overall pick.

Lions receive:

No. 1 overall pick in 2021 NFL Draft

Jaguars receive:

Matthew Stafford

No. 7 overall pick in 2021

No. 39 overall pick in 2021

2022 1st Round pick

2022 2nd Round pick

2023 1st Round pick

2023 2nd Round pick

Nation, would you be willing to give up Stafford and all of the Lions first and second-round picks for the next three seasons to land the No. 1 overall pick? Do you think it would take this much?
