The 2018-19 NHL season will likely be the third consecutive in a row that the Detroit Red Wings will be on the outside looking in when the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin. But among the bright spots this year is the play of goaltender Jimmy Howard, who has kept his team in games on most nights and has had several strong performances.

The NHL announced on Wednesday that Howard will represent the Red Wings at the 2018 NHL All-Star game at SAP Center at San Jose. It will be Howard’s third time at the annual event; Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price was named the other goaltender for the Atlantic Division.

Howard previously participated in the 2012 All-Star Game; he was selected to play in the 2015 All-Star game as well, but wasn’t able to attend due to a groin injury.
Fans may be wondering why forward Dylan Larkin won’t be participating, and they certainly have a case. However, there were several forwards who were selected ahead of him – Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Auston Matthews and John Tavares of the Toronto Maple leafs, Jack Eichel of the Buffalo Sabres and David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins.
The All-Star Game will take place on January 26.

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been 10 years now since the Winter Classic between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks at Wrigley Field! The Red Wings emerged victorious with a final score of 6-4.
Game summary:
The first three combined goals were scored on the power play. The Red Wings paid for a mistake while they were already shorthanded, having too many players on the ice, putting them down by two men. Rookie winger Kris Versteeg scored the first goal of the game for the Blackhawks with three seconds left in the two-man advantage. The Red Wings’ Mikael Samuelsson scored with three seconds remaining on his team’s second power play which was the result of a Dustin Byfuglien roughing minor that was called during one of the many post-whistle scrums during the first period.
