Palace of Auburn Hills to close next month

It comes as no surprise, but the speculation became official today that The Palace of Auburn Hills is closing.

When Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores announced last year that the team would move downtown and play in the new Little Caesars Arena, it seemed like just a matter of time before this announcement was made.

Palace Sports & Entertainment confirmed today that after their upcoming slate of events wraps up next month, the Palace doors will be closed forever.

The Palace opened in August of 1988, coinciding with the “Bad Boy” Pistons winning the franchise’s first two NBA Finals in 1989 and 1990. The Pistons’ practice facility behind the Palace will remain open for the next year or two until a new facility can be built closer to the LCA.

The final event at the Palace of Auburn Hills will appropriately be Michigan native Bob Seger’s concert on September 23.
