BREAKING: Detroit Tigers SP Michael Fulmer lost for 2019 seaon

It was the news we all expected, yet shied away from: Michael Fulmer is heading for Tommy John surgery. Reports yesterday were that he was seeking a third opinion after having met with specialist Dr. James Andrews. The third opinion confirmed the other two and Fulmer will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Fulmer began to experience discomfort in his elbow after a bullpen session. This, after he had been shut down due to decreased velocity and struggles with his lower-body mechanics. It has been an injury-plagued few years for Fulmer since his sensational rookie season. Hopefully, he will take this time to get completely healthy and look to rebound in 2020. Tough loss for the Tigers, but it’s better to have a healthy Fulmer in the future when they’re ready to actually compete.
