Detroit Tigers INF Jordy Mercer clears waivers, elects free agency rather than staying with team

According to the Detroit Tigers, INF Jordy Mercer has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to the club’s alternate training site in Toledo. Rather than accepting the assignment, he has elected free agency.

Mercer, who is nearly 34, played in 3 games for the Tigers this season, going 2-for-9.

The move puts the active roster at 28, which is where it needs to be moving forward.

The Tigers, who have not played since Sunday, will be heading to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates in a 3-game series which begins on Friday.

Detroit Tigers release pitching rotation for upcoming series vs. Pirates

On Friday, the Detroit Tigers, who have been off since dropping both games of a doubleheader on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds, will be in Pittsburgh to begin a 3-game set against the Pirates.

For those of us who are patiently awaiting the Major League debut of the Tigers top pitching prospect, Casey Mize, we will have to wait a bit longer as the pitching rotation for this weekend has been released and Mize’s name is nowhere to be found.
