Former Detroit Red Wings forward Martin Lapointe endeared himself to fans in the Motor City with his hard-nosed play, his knack for scoring key goals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and his willingness to defend his teammates.

Of course, he also was more than happy to drop the gloves when the occasion required, as Toronto’s Dave Manson found out during a December 2000 game at Joe Louis Arena.
