The Detroit Red Wings will take on the New Jersey Devils tonight for the final time this season. Tonight is the Wings’ third matchup against the Devils. In the first matchup, the second game of the season, Detroit picked up the win 5-2 in New Jersey. The Red Wings lost to the Devils 6-2 in Detroit in their second matchup.
Starting Goalie Tonight: Ville Husso
Husso will return to the net tonight as he gets the starting nod in between the pipes tonight for the Wings’. This is Husso’s first start after missing the last two games with an illness. In his last start against the Pittsburgh Penguins, he got pulled after allowing four goals on 12 shots in the first period. Husso this season is 12-6-5 and has allowed 66 goals on 715 shots, good enough for a 2.86 Goals Against Average and a .908 save percentage.
Husso did not play in the first two matchups against the Devils, so this is his first matchup against them this season. In his career against New Jersey, Husso is 0-0-1, losing to them in overtime on March 6, 2022, a game in which Husso allowed three goals on 33 shots. Magnus Hellberg will be Husso’s backup tonight after the Red Wings sent Alex Nedeljkovic on a conditioning stint at Grand Rapids.

Wrap Up
The Red Wings have become the comeback kids once again, scoring four unanswered goals, and three of those goals came in the third period on Saturday to beat the Ottawa Senators. They have outscored their opponents 11-1 in the third period in their last four games. They must flip the script and score early and often against a good Devils team. Detroit has won three of their last four games, while the Devils have gone 1-2-1 in their last four games.
