To put things nicely, the Detroit Lions do not have a reliable kicker, and Week 1 of the 2021 regular season is quickly approaching.
Well, a solution may have just presented itself as the Indianapolis Colts are waiving kicker Eddy Pineiro as Rodrigo Blankenship has won their kicking gig.
Piniero, who did not play in the league in 2020, connected on 23 of 28 field goals during his rookie season in 2019 with the Chicago Bears, including going 2-for-2 from 50 yards or further. That being said, he was only 3-for-7 on field goals between 40-49 yards.
During the preseason with the Colts, Piniero did not miss a single kick as he connected on-field goals from 28, 30, 31, and 50 yards.
Is Piniero a great kicker? No. But do not be surprised if the Lions bring in Piniero to help solve their kicking problems.
Colts are waiving kicker Eddy Pineiro, per source, meaning Rodrigo Blankenship wins Indy’s kicking job. Pineiro did not miss a kick this preseason and could draw interest on waivers with some teams struggling at kicker right now.
