The Lions MUST make a call to this free agent wide receiver

Who has Michael Crabtree on speed dial?

The free agent wide receiver must be contacted and taken to the Detroit Lions Allen Park facility immediately.

The Lions were thin at the receiver position before free agent signee Jermaine Kearse went down in the first quarter of the Lions preseason opener with a gruesome injury which led to him being carted off the field, and an aircast being placed over his leg. Kearse has been diagnosed with a broken leg and sprained ankle. While no timetable has been officially announced, tt certainly feels like Kearse is going to miss significant time, which is a pretty significant blow to the Lions offense.

Kearse was slated to be the No. 4 receiver on the depth chart behind Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr, and Danny Amendola. This is not a position the Lions should look in-house to fill. While Brandon Powell can be productive in spots, if the Lions are serious about being a team that can challenge for the NFC North this year, they will have to find an upgrade.

That upgrade should come in the form of 10 year veteran Michael Crabtree. Crabtree has suited up for the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, Baltimore Ravens, and was seemingly headed to the Arizona Cardinals to play his 11th season until the contract talks unexpectedly broke down and the two sides were unable to come to an agreement.

Contract details from Crabtree’s breakdown with the Cardinals are still unknown, but money won’t be an issue for the Lions. They have a boatload of it. The Lions currently have over 18 million dollars in cap space and could offer Crabtree anything that will make him say yes for a year.

Crabtree struggled with drops last year, and still managed to haul in 54 receptions for 607 yards and three touchdowns. Crabtree has also been impressively durable during his career, missing just two games in the past five seasons. Crabtree would add a boost to the offense, but more importantly he would add depth to a position group severely lacking it. There’s no downside in adding Crabtree to the roster, and he will more than likely be available every game, which itself is a skill in the NFL. If you have Crabtree’s phone number, please drop it in the comments below so we can get it in the hands of the right people.
