Saturday afternoon’s matchup at Little Caesars Arena between the Michigan State Spartans and Oakland Golden Grizzlies will be the final collegiate homecoming for star Cassius Winston.
The senior All-American and Detroit native has a special bond with the city, and talked about what playing there means to him.
“People know what the city means to me. I enjoy it every time I go back there,” he said. “They support me. They’ve loved me through this whole journey, so just to have a chance to go back there and play in Detroit, that’s an amazing feeling.”
Winston has had a hand in 49% of all Michigan State field goals over the last three games, and is averaging 17.8 points and 6.2 assists this season.
Spartans coach Tom Izzo knows what playing in his hometown means for Winston and the opportunity it affords for alumni to come to the city to watch their team play.
“I love our team having a chance to play in Detroit and at a great venue like Little Caesars Arena,” Izzo saidwhen the matchup was announced earlier this year. “This will be special for Cassius Winston to play in his hometown as a senior and it’s a great opportunity for Spartan alumni in Detroit to come see us play.”
The Spartans and Golden Grizzlies will tip-off just after 12:00 PM on ESPN2.
