Few prep football players, if any, put together a better 2017 season than Muskegon quarterback La’Darius Jefferson. The 3-star dual-threat signal-caller took home multiple ‘Player of the Year’ honors on top of a Division 3 state championship.
Jefferson is also now the latest in-state prospect to commit to Michigan State for 2018.

Jefferson (6-2, 210 pounds) is regarded as a top-30 player in the state of Michigan, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Primarily a “run first” quarterback, he logged over 2,000 yards on the ground along with his 1,200+ passing yards. In total, Jefferson was responsible for an incredible 54 touchdowns this season for the Big Reds of Muskegon.
Michigan State became a real serious threat for his services just last month. The Spartans offered Jefferson a scholarship on November 10 and they were named the “favorite” to land him. Previously committed to Central Florida, Jefferson decommitted from the Golden Knights just three days later after receiving the offer from MSU. His commitment to Michigan State comes just one day after making an official visit to East Lansing on Friday, December 8.

2018 CLASS COUNTER: 20
With the addition of Jefferson, Michigan State now has 20 hard commits from the Class of 2018, a crop of prospects that now ranks 21st nationally and top-5 in the Big Ten. Jefferson is also the sixth in-state recruit that MSU has reeled in as part of this class, and the second one in a week’s span.
It was just one week ago that 4-star defensive back and Cass Tech standout Kalon Gervin announced his commitment to Michigan State for 2018. Gervin by many accounts is considered the best all-around player in the state. Another one of those homegrown commits, 3-star U of D Jesuit running back Elijah Collins, has taken notice to the Spartans’ newest pledge.

As far as Jefferson is concerned, it remains to be seen whether or not Jefferson will continue his football path at the quarterback position. Michigan State offered him as an athlete, which could open possibilities to him playing as a running back or even a linebacker.
