It took 20 games – far too long for a player making the money he is, but he’s finally got his first point of the season.

Struggling forward Frans Nielsen notched an assist on Luke Glendening’s second period goal against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the first time his name has appeared in any way on the scoresheet for the 2019-20 season so far.

Signed to a 6-year, $31.5 million deal by former GM Ken Holland in July of 2016, Nielsen has seen his point production fall heavily from his career best 58 with the New York Islanders in 2014 to just 35 last season.

With last night’s assist, he’s now officially on pace for four assists on the year – with a salary cap hit of $5,250,000.
