It goes without saying that former Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom is one of the premier sports icons not only in the city of Detroit, but in the history of hockey. And his nickname of “The Perfect Human” is well deserved, considering the almost endless list of accolades he earned during his legendary career.
The Red Wings officially announced that Lidstrom would be rejoining the team as the new Vice President of Hockey Operations earlier today. And for GM and his former teammate Steve Yzerman, it wasn’t a difficult decision whatsoever.
“I thought it was a good thing for Nick if he wanted to get back in and come and join us. I played with him for the majority of his career, and we had a lot of success together. I not only relied on him to lead him on the ice, but he was a great resource as captain of the team to bounce things off him.
For the Detroit Red Wings, it was an opportunity to not only bring in a great player, but a first class person with great character and tremendous knowledge of the game. For me, it was an easy decision and a great opportunity. I Know Nick will add tremendous value.
“We encourage him and have asked him to get involved in every aspect,” Yzerman continued. “For all of us, to be able to pick his brain… it’s a tremendous resource.”
